Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Chelsea have just been beaten at their own game when it comes to making signings at the 11th hour.

The Blues have looked to conduct some business early this summer in an attempt to lay the foundations for new manager Enzo Maresca to get off to the best possible start.

This has been shown by the fact that they beat a number of their rival sides to the free signing of Tosin Adarabioyo, after his time at Fulham came to an end.

It was believed they were looking to also act quick when it came to young additions too, and they were reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Brazilian defender Pedro Lima.

It was even claimed that a deal had been agreed, with him set to feature for Strasbourg with a clear pathway to Stamford Bridge when he was ready.

Wolves hijack Chelsea’s Pedro Lima deal

However, Romano took to Twitter to state that he was instead headed to another Premier League team, with Wolves striking a deal with his current club.

He said: “OFFICIAL: Wolves have hijacked deal and signed Pedro Lima from Sport Recife despite deal verbally agreed with BlueCo group last week.

“Sport Recife announce deal agreed with Wolves for 2006 born Brazilian right back. Club statement from Sport Recife confirms deal in place.”

One person who is likely to be thrilled with the news is Wolves forward Matheus Cunha. He came out and said last week he was wishing his team had beaten Chelsea to a deal.

Chelsea have normally been the ones making the late hijacks of deals, notably clawing the signing of Moises Caicedo out of thin air when he looked certain to move to Liverpool last summer.

As far as other potential youngsters to come in, it has been reported it is very close to being announced that they have completed a big-money move for exciting Brazilian Esteavo Willian, who is already being tipped to be one of the best in the game.
