Chelsea’s presence at Euro 2024 was strong in numbers at the start, however their impact on the pitch has so far not been as positive.

Despite being one of the most impressive players in the league last season, Cole Palmer has only been given a single cameo appearance off the bench for an underperforming England side this summer.

Mykhailo Mudryk and Armando Broja have been dumped out of the competition in the group stages, with the former in particular not particularly impressing Chelsea fans with his contribution to Ukraine.

One player who the Blues will be hoping enjoys a strong competition is Romelu Lukaku, with there being a hope that they can part ways with him on a permanent basis.

Lineker says Romelu Lukaku has been unlucky at Euro 2024

While he is yet to score an official goal this summer, he has had the ball in the net three times, none of which have counted.

Gary Lineker said on The Rest is Football that he actually thinks the Belgian has been extremely unlucky so far.

He said: “He was really poor yesterday but in the previous two games I absolutely agree with you. I think he was desperately unlucky and it was a tiny bit of his toe and then the supposed handball which I thought was ludicrous.”

International teammate Jeremy Doku has stated that the striker is actually scared to celebrate goals at the minute due to their always being a chance that it will be disallowed afterwards.

Belgium have a huge Round of 16 tie against France to come in the next few days, and will no doubt need to pull out a far better performance in that game if they are to get a result.

They will be up against an inspired former Chelsea player in N’golo Kante, who is proving that he is certainly not done at the top level despite leaving Europe 12 months ago.
