One Premier League club are now very close to securing the addition of a Chelsea player to their ranks.

The Blues are looking to do their business early this summer in an attempt to give the best possible backing to new manager Enzo Maresca ahead of his first season in the top flight.

While signings have been at the forefront of reports of late, they have still been pushing to complete a number of player sales in order to free up both space and money.

One of those who has strongly been linked with a move away is Ian Maatsen, after he made his mark in the second half of the season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

While the Bundesliga club were unable to match the fee they wanted for him, it has broken that Premier League side Aston Villa have reached an agreement on a deal for him.

Chelsea could sell Ian Maatsen in the next few days

Now, Fabrizio Romano has claimed on Twitter that they are pushing to complete this deal in the next few days.

He said: “More on Ian Maatsen. Aston Villa are confident to get it done also on final details by the end of this week, there’s already green light from Chelsea.

“Clubs are discussing the possibility to include one player in the deal, currently not guaranteed to be Jhon Durán.”

Despite a rough first half of the campaign where appearances at all came at a premium for Maatsen, he impressed instantly when he started playing his football in the Bundesliga.

New Sporting Director at the time Sebastien Kehl stated that he was impressed with a  player he described as ‘very calm’.

It remains to be seen if the deal will be announced soon, and if it comes with Chelsea making their own signing from Villa Park.

The name most frequently linked with a deal is Jhon Duran, who is reportedly very keen on a move to West London.
