Chelsea are very close to officially announcing their new manager at Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.

It has been widely reported that the club have decided on Enzo Maresca to become the next head coach at the club, replacing Mauricio Pochettino in his role.

It looks as if the Leicester City boss impressed enough in his first season in the game to win the race as far as chiefs at the club are concerned, despite the fact that the likes of Roberto De Zerbi and Kieran McKenna were linked.

Enzo Maresca set to become Chelsea manager

It has been claimed that Maresca has already done plenty of research into the current Chelsea squad and those he believes he can get a tune out of when he takes over.

Those reports stated that the Italian has a plan in place for Enzo Fernandez already, who many will believe they have not seen the best of at Stamford Bridge so far.

One position that has plenty of spotlight on it in a Maresca side is the goalkeeper, with there very much an emphasis on passing out from the back and starting attacks.

Djordje Petrovic should be worried at Maresca appointment

The current number one in West London is Djordje Petrovic, who broke in at the back end of 2023 and didn’t relinquish his place between the sticks.

His shot stopping has been a real positive for the Blues, with his progress being described as ‘fantastic’ by Pochettino.

However, one area he has not been the best at is passing, with him often deciding to go long to avoid any major errors at the back.

While this has likely seen some hairy moments avoided, it doesn’t feel as if it will fit into what Maresca is known for trying to do.

With the Blues set to have a busy summer transfer window, you can’t help but feel that goalkeeper is a position he will be looking to in order to get the Blues playing how he wants.

Despite a strong debut campaign for Petrovic, he is surely fearing the worst in the coming weeks and months.
