Celtic’s Brendan Rodgers has just made an interesting prediction about new Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca.

It’s been another busy summer so far at Chelsea with changes to the squad and staff, which has included the arrival of Enzo Maresca into the manager’s dugout.

The Italian boss has started his role in the last few weeks and is currently overseeing the club’s pre-season tour in the United States.

He’s getting to take a proper look at his squad for the first time. Speaking recently via Chelsea’s official website, Levi Colwill said Maresca is hands on in training.

Next, Chelsea face Scottish giants Celtic on Saturday night in their second pre-season friendly in the US. This comes after a 2-2 draw with Wrexham earlier this week.

Brendan Rodgers predicts Enzo Maresca to succeed at Chelsea

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who’s preparing his side to face Chelsea, has just been very complementary of his opposite number.

He’s actually predicted that Maresca will do really well at Stamford Bridge with his clear philosophy on possession-based football.

Rodgers said in his press conference streamed by Celtic’s YouTube channel: “Enzo has come in having done very, very well at Leicester, getting them back to the Premier League, but Chelsea is a totally different challenge. The expectation around Chelsea, to be one of the most successful clubs in the world, that will still be there within the support base.

“They have got some fantastic players and I am sure Enzo and his staff will do a really, really good job there… Enzo will be very clear on how he wants to work. We have seen that against Wrexham, and I have seen his work at Leicester.”

Enzo Maresca will be learning on the job

It’s worth remembering that 44-year-old Maresca is still a relatively young coach and will be learning himself while he tries to adapt to his new environment at Chelsea.

Here below are the stats from his coaching career so far:

Club & role Matches W D L PPM
Leicester City manager 53 36 4 13 2.11
Parma manager 14 4 5 5 1.21
Manchester City U23 manager 28 19 5 4 2.21

This is an extremely young group that Maresca is inheriting. In fact, Gary Cahill has urged Chelsea to sign experience players during a recent interview with The Sun.

Let’s hope he’s given the necessary time in the Blues dugout to be successful.
