Harry Redknapp would really like to see one former Chelsea manager considered for the England job.

The England managerial position is currently available following Gareth Southgate’s decision to step down after Euro 2024, and there are a few former Chelsea bosses without a job right now.

The above includes Redknapp’s nephew Frank Lampard, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter.

The last of that quartet was recently asked about succeeding Southgate, but Potter had no plans to discuss the England job during his interview.

Out of work, though, it would not be difficult for the FA to hire him or any of the above names.

Harry Redknapp does not think Frank Lampard will get England job

Redknapp cannot see Lampard or Steven Gerrard getting an interview for the England job, let alone the job itself.

However, the former Premier League manager does think the Chelsea legend should be considered for the vacancy.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Redknapp said: “I’m not saying they’ll get it, there’s very little chance that they will even get an interview. I’m a big fan of Lampard and Gerrard. They played in tournaments.”

He later went on to add: “So, you know I’m going for two people that I’ve got great respect for. They were fantastic players, incredible professionals who know the game inside out, played in World Cups, played in European Championships under international managers. Why should they be written off?”

Eddie Howe is also being linked with the England job, and Pochettino could become the next Newcastle manager if the 46-year-old departs St James’ Park to become the new Three Lions boss.

Frank Lampard likely to be low on FA’s list

It is not impossible that Lampard gets an interview for the England job. He is someone who is obviously familiar with English football and has managed in the Premier League before.

But it would be a surprise if he was named as Southgate’s successor. There are too many strong candidates right now, like Howe, Pochettino and Tuchel.

Lampard could get the England U21 job, though, if their current boss, Lee Carsley, gets a dream promotion.

Lampard may have to rebuild his career a bit before he is seriously considered for such jobs. He was sacked from his last two permanent jobs at Everton and Chelsea. And when he returned to the Blues as caretaker manager, he did not accomplish a lot.
