According to journalist Gaston Edul, Chelsea are preparing to make a decision that may well leave one of their top players a bit unhappy.

With the club season now over, the players are either gearing up for their summer holidays, or looking to prove to international managers that they should be featuring in the upcoming continental tournaments.

The feeling around the players at Chelsea should actually be one of confidence really after they ended the season in fine form, stepping up when they needed to to at least secure some form of European football for next season.

One player who was unfortunately not present for a number of these games was Enzo Fernandez, after his season ended early when he underwent surgery to heal what had been a long-term issue.

The target of his early surgery was to be able to represent his country at this summer’s Copa America, with featuring for the World Cup winners rightfully high on his agenda.

It was also reported that he would be looking to feature in the Olympics for his country this summer, however that would cause an issue for his club side.

Chelsea likely to reject Fernandez Olympics request

Participation there would have an impact on his ability to feature in pre-season, something that Edul said on Twitter is a factor which has played on Chelsea’s mind.

He said: “Chelsea does not want Enzo Fernández to go to the Olympic Games because they want to count on him from the beginning of the preseason with the change of coach.

“It’s difficult. There will be one more talk on the weekend and it will be confirmed whether he can go or not.”

Enzo Maresca is likely to be announced as the new manager in the coming hours, and will be relying on a big pre-season in order to get himself ready for what will be his Premier League debut.

It has already been reported that the Italian has a plan in place to get the best out of Fernandez next season, and having him available is certainly required if he is to get that message across before the campaign begins
