Chelsea star Axel Disasi was absent yet again on Saturday during the club’s second match of the pre-season tour.

Chelsea followed up their 2-2 draw against Wrexham with a frustrating 4-1 defeat versus Celtic at the weekend.

The Blues are still early into their pre-season schedule, while Scottish giants Celtic begin their league campaign next weekend.

Chelsea fans may have noticed that Axel Disasi, who’s with the touring group in the United States, was once again missing from the matchday squad on Saturday.

There’s been no official line from the club explaining the absence of the 26-year-old defender, but a respected journalist has now provided an update.

Axel Disasi expected back soon from minor surgery

Ben Jacobs had reported via X on Saturday night that Disasi is missing from Chelsea’s pre-season friendlies due to injury.

It is explained that the French centre-back had “minor surgery” in the summer on an injury problem and is still recovering. He’s expected back and available soon, though.

Chelsea centre-back spots look up for grabs

Based on what we’ve seen from Chelsea’s opening two pre-season matches, the defensive positions are still very much up for grabs. In fact, the backline has been a bit all over the place, particularly in the heavy Celtic loss.

Disasi was a key central defender in the Blues squad last season, playing 44 times across all competitions. Will he still be as important following the change of management, though?

It’s good news that he’s expected back soon because it will be great to see him play in the US and prove his qualities to the new boss.

A recent report by GiveMeSport claimed that Wesley Fofana and Levi Colwill may be Chelsea’s partnership when it comes to the heart of defence next season. However, we’re seeing Colwill as a left-back so far in the system.
