He is a World Cup winner with Argentina, registering an assist in the final and scoring a crucial goal against Poland.

Mac Allister’s stock has risen considerably during his third full season in Brighton colours, and new teammate Robertson is delighted to have him on board.

Discussing the signing with talkSPORT, the Scot said: “We’ve lost a couple of big characters within the changing room and we’ve already made strides to replace that.

“Alexis is a fantastic player, he’s been at Brighton the last two or three seasons and anytime he’s played against us he’s always caused us difficulties.

Robertson says Klopp made it clear things had to change as Reds star targets fresh start

“He’s obviously a World Cup winner, which is not easy. He’s a quality player and I’m sure he’ll fit into our changing room easily.

“I look forward to playing alongside him because he’s a fantastic player and he can bring a lot of quality to our squad and that’s what we need and he’s certainly a player that ticks all the boxes.”

Jurgen Klopp looks set to continue a midfield overhaul having secured Mac Allister’s services.

Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner have all left the club, which links persist to France U21 duo Khephren Thuram and Manu Kone.
