Jurgen Klopp has allayed any fears that Alexis Mac Allister’s knock sustained in a friendly against Bayern Munich is serious.
Mac Allister hobbled off just before half time of the Reds’ 4-3 defeat to the Bundesliga champions on Wednesday at the Singapore National Stadium.
Liverpool fans were immediately concerned for the Argentinian World Cup winner, who was involved in a collision with Bayern Munich’s Konrad Leimer before being replaced.
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson immediately called for the physio, and replays showed Mac Allister suffer a bang to the knee.
Klopp has since provided an update on his star, playing down fears of a serious injury.
“[It was] knee on knee, he could have played on,” the Liverpool manager told reporters post-match.
“The first information I got was that it was too painful, so it was clear that we would change, no need to push him through.
“When I spoke to him after he said, ‘no, no, I would have been fine’. But we didn’t want to take any risks.
“It was just knee on knee, bruised. He was fine.”
The Reds went two goals to the good in Singapore, before letting their lead slip with Cody Gakpo and Virgil van Dijk, who netted his first as Reds skipper, put Liverpool in control.
Bayern then responded through Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane before half-time.
Luis Diaz later restored Klopp’s side’s lead, before Josip Stanisic and 20-year-old youngster Frans Kratzig won it for Thomas Tuchel’s team.
