Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has been speaking about his new boss Enzo Maresca after having a couple of weeks to work with him.

Enzo Maresca replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea manager last month and is now getting the Blues ready for their pre-season tour of the United States.

Levi Colwill will be part of the squad that flies over to America and will be hoping to show Maresca that he can be a solid central defender for him.

Last term, the 21-year-old spent a lot of time on the left flank. However, Colwill says he struggled playing at left-back, with the Englishman being a natural centre-back.

Competition for a spot in central defence will be fierce this upcoming season, as Maresca also has the likes of Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana in his ranks.

Adarabioyo is enjoying life under Maresca, and it looks like it is no different for Colwill.

The England international has been talking about the Italian, explaining how he operates at the training ground.

In an interview with Chelsea’s official website, Colwill said: “Obviously he’s on the pitch all the time, he’s proper hands on.

“I think if I was a coach, I think it’s the best way to be because you know how you want to play, and you can envisage it perfectly so if you’re there to inflict it on the team I think it’d work the most.

“He seems amazing so far and like I said before, hopefully he can just help us win more games and achieve more things as a team.”

Chelsea still have Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell at their club and could sign a new left-back before the transfer window closes.

Chelsea are interested in signing Patrick Dorgu, who could end up giving the Blues even more depth in the left-back position.

Therefore, it would be a surprise if Colwill ended up having to play at left-back in the new season. For now, Chelsea obviously have options and could add to them.

As a short-term fix, it is not the end of the world. But as a top team, you obviously want a natural left-back who can attack and put crosses into the box. That being said, Maresca may be looking for a full-back who can invert like during his time as Leicester City boss.
