Lionel Messi’s new Inter Miami teammate in hospital after being bitten by tropical spider at zoo – Inter Miami goalkeeper Nick Marsman has returned home after being hospitalised by a spider bite.

The Dutch shot-stopper spent three days in care after an unfortunate run-in with a poisonous spider at a zoo in Florida.

That may come as a surprise to new teammate Lionel Messi, who will team up with the former Feyenoord and Utrecht keeper after signing for the MLS side.

Marsman’s wife posted on Instagram: “The downside of living in a tropical climate… is when you go to the zoo and get bitten by a poisonous spider.”

She added: “End up being hospitalised for three days,” with a picture of the 32-year-old resting in his bed.

A final post read: “Happy to have you back home, now get well soon,” showing the Inter goalkeeper hugging one of his children while in his hospital bed.

Marsman, who spent most of his career at FC Twente, will soon be able to call Messi a teammate with the former Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona man heading to Miami after the current international break with Argentina.

However, it’s not so much the spiders Marsman worries about for Messi, but the lack of security at the David Beckham-owned side.

Speaking to ESPN before the deal, he said: “It would be fun [if Messi joined]. I personally think that our club is not yet ready when he comes.

“People can walk onto the field, there are no fences or anything. We walk from the training centre to the stadium for the match without security. So I guess they’re not ready yet. But I hope he comes.”

Meanwhile, Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has revealed that Messi’s Miami debut will be on July 21 against Mexican side Cruz Azul in the Leagues Cup.

Since the news came to light, ticket prices for the match have skyrocketed, with Ticketmaster selling pitch-side seats for up to $10,000 each.
