Southampton have rejected a third bid from Liverpool for Romeo Lavia, talkSPORT understands.

The bid is believed to be worth up to £45million but Saints are holding out for £50m.

Liverpool’s opening bid of £35million for the midfielder was immediately rejected by Saints, while their second offer is understood to have fallen well below the Championship club’s valuation of the former Manchester City man.

The Reds’ pursuit of the 19-year-old has developed into a summer transfer saga, something that Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher is embarrassed by.

Carragher also advised his former club to now walk away from any deal to try and sign Lavia and suggested Liverpool should go after Brighton man Moises Caicedo, who’s embroiled in his own transfer saga.

“This is embarrassing,” Carragher tweeted.

“Liverpool for years now have got deals done quickly with no fuss.
If you don’t think he’s worth £50m move on, if you really want him pay it.

“Also not sure why LFC aren’t in for [Moises] Caicedo, yes it’s a lot of money but Liverpool got big money for JH [Jordan Henderson] /FAB [Fabinho].”

Lavia moved to St Mary’s from Man City in a £14m deal last summer but couldn’t prevent them from being relegated from the Premier League in his first season at the club.

The Belgium midfielder has attracted plenty of attention this summer with Chelsea also said to be interested in him.
