One former Chelsea player has admitted that he has struggled a bit since leaving Stamford Bridge.

There were quite a few exits at Chelsea last summer, including some very high-profile ones. The likes of N’Golo Kante and Mason Mount both departed the club, for example.

Despite having only arrived at Old Trafford a year ago, Mount could be set for a Manchester United departure already.

There were also some lower profile names that left Chelsea in the previous summer transfer window, such as Lewis Hall, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ethan Ampadu.

Lewis Hall discusses move to Newcastle

Last August, Newcastle United signed Hall from Chelsea on a loan deal. The loan has now become a permanent transfer worth £28m.

Following his permanent move to Newcastle, Hall has spoken about some of his struggles at the club last season.

In an interview with NUFC TV, which has been shared by the Magpies’ official YouTube channel, the left-back said: “There are always some nerves and it’s difficult moving to a new club no matter what age you are, but especially moving so far from home, it’s not easy.

“If you’ve had a bad day for example at training, if you’re coming back to an empty house, it’s not the easiest. But I had support from my family and all the players and staff who helped me through that and helped me develop as a person as well as a player.”

Borussia Dortmund were interested in Hall, but the 19-year-old will be a Newcastle player for the 2024/25 season.

Chelsea have lost a lot of talent at left-back

As well as Hall, Chelsea have also lost Ian Maatsen after his move to Aston Villa at the end of last month.

The Blues, then, have seen a couple of very young and talented left-backs depart the club, leaving new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca having to make do with Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell.

They are by no means the worst left-back combo you can have, with Cucurella really proving himself at Euro 2024. Rio Ferdinand suggested that Cucurella was the best left-back at the tournament.

But Chilwell has picked up so many injuries in the past few seasons. It remains to be seen whether Maresca can rely on him and if he will still actually be at Chelsea beyond the transfer window. Manchester United have Chilwell in their sights as they look to bring in a new left-back.
