  • Aussie super heavyweight is competing in Paris
  • He showed off with a cheeky celebration after his win

While there was disappointment for Harry Garside in the boxing ring in Paris, giant Aussie star Teremoana got his Olympic Games campaign off to a flyer with a brutal victory.

The 26-year-old, competing in the super heavyweight division, delivered a first round knockout win in his scrap with Ukraine’s Dmytro Lovchynskyi on Monday afternoon local time.

The sorry Ukrainian survived a knockdown and a standing eight count before Teremoana rocked him with a punishing one-two, forcing the referee to wave off the contest.

After being officially confirmed as the bout winner, the Aussie showboated with a cheeky celebration in the centre of the ring.

‘I wasn’t planning to go for the knock-out, the plan was to go out there and box but I was landing a few clean punches and he was feeling it and went down every time he got caught,’ Teremoana said.

He will fight Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov in the quarter finals on Friday.

The pair met at the world championships last year, with Jalolov winning by stoppage in the second round.

But Teremoana has not lost since that night, setting up a fascinating contest in Paris.
