With quite a few of them available, there is a good possibility of a former Chelsea manager becoming the next England boss.

Gareth Southgate remains in charge of England, and it is unlikely that the FA will want him to leave after he took them to the Euro 2024 final.

However, the 53-year-old has been coy on his future and is out of contract in December.

“Now is not the time for me to speak about that,” Southgate told BBC Sport after Sunday’s final.

Graham Potter is one man who is available should England have to appoint a new manager. Jamie Carragher has his doubts about Potter, though.

England’s list of potential Gareth Southgate replacements

Potter is not the only former Chelsea manager England can turn to.

According to The Telegraph, as well as Potter, Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino will also be among the leading candidates to replace Southgate if he leaves the Three Lions.

The outlet claims that both men would be interested in the England job if it becomes available.

It is good news for any Chelsea and England supporter who wants to see Tuchel manage this year’s European Championship finalists.

Would former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel be a good replacement for Gareth Southgate?

Things did obviously not go to plan for Tuchel at Bayern Munich.

However, the German did win one Bundesliga title during his short spell at the club and is still an excellent coach.

Tuchel was not able to win a league title at Chelsea, but he was able to guide the Blues to the Champions League trophy and multiple cup finals.

Ultimately, Tuchel is a very good tournament manager, making him perfect for a national team job.

With the squad England have, there is no reason why the Three Lions could not win the 2026 World Cup with the 50-year-old at the helm. Though again, the FA will probably want to head into that tournament with Southgate still in charge.
