Chelsea could look to extend the contract of one of their key players from last season.

This summer is proving to be a very busy one for Chelsea.

They have been extremely active in the transfer window, bringing in players and selling them.

The Blues signed Renato Veiga from Basel last week and do not look finished in the transfer market just yet. Nico Williams is on Chelsea’s radar, so there is a possibility that they make a move for him at some point.

The club could also do more business in the form of handing out a new contract.

Chelsea star could remain in west London this summer

Regarding outgoings, Chelsea have sold the likes of Ian Maatsen and Omari Hutchinson.

Thiago Silva has also left the club on a free transfer, returning to Fluminense.

Having entered the final year of his contract, there is also a possibility of Conor Gallagher leaving Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, according to CaughtOffside, the Blues are currently discussing a new deal for the midfielder.

Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that Atletico Madrid are showing strong interest in Gallagher.

Should Chelsea offer Conor Gallagher a new contract now Euro 2024 is over?

Gallagher was a key player for Chelsea last season, making 50 appearances in all competitions.

His national team manager, Gareth Southgate, has described him as a footballer with “tremendous drive”.

After his 2023/24 campaign, Gallagher probably deserves a new contract. And with his participation at Euro 2024 with England finished, now could be a good time to offer him one.

If not, then you would expect the 24-year-old to be sold, as Chelsea will not want to risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

The Blues have brought in Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall from Leicester City, a box-to-box midfielder, so in terms of replacing Gallagher, they already have his potential successor.

With Chelsea being his boyhood club, though, the England international will obviously want to remain at Stamford Bridge.
