Enzo Maresca could return to Italy to make his first signing as Chelsea manager.

The former Parma boss is set to replace Mauricio Pochettino in the Stamford Bridge dugout.

Enzo Maresca has reportedly agreed a five-year contract with Chelsea to succeed the Argentine.

It has also been claimed that the Italian wants to sign a new goalkeeper, left-back and forward.

In terms of that left-back, it looks like Maresca and Chelsea could head to Serie A to get one this summer.

Chelsea trying to sign new left-back for Enzo Maresca

Chelsea want to satisfy the man who is set to become their next manager it seems.

According to Tuttosport, they have already knocked on the door to sign Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori in a potential €22m (£19m) deal.

The same outlet claims that Calafiori is a player who Maresca really likes.

Calafiori is comfortable playing at both left-back and centre-back, spending most of this season as the latter.

Riccardo Calafiori could be bad news for Ben Chilwell

Marc Cucurella finished the season as an inverted full-back under Pochettino. The Argentine is gone now, but Maresca has used a similar tactic at Leicester.

That means the Spaniard’s position in the squad could be safe, but it is another story for Ben Chilwell.

It remains to be seen if Chilwell can adapt to that role, while the 27-year-old has picked up a lot of injuries this term.

Simply put, Calafiori arriving at Stamford Bridge would not be a good development for Chilwell.

Given his versatility, there is always the chance that the Italian is brought in and ends up playing in central defence. But if not, then another left-back may have to leave the club. And as of now, you would have to make Chilwell the main candidate.

Whether it is Calafiori or someone else, it looks like Maresca will try to bring in a new left-back this summer in a potential blow to Chelsea’s current vice-captain.
