Chelsea are in the process of fine tuning their new system ahead of the Premier League curtain raiser against Manchester City.
Enzo Maresca is implementing a brand new style on the club, and sources have been impressed by the football that has been played on the training ground since he arrived.
He will be looking to use the pre-season tour of the United States as an opportunity to see which players the manager has available to him that are able to carry out his instructions.
One player who will not get that opportunity is Trevoh Chalobah, who was left off the list of players travelling. This is seemingly down to their intention to sell him this summer.
Another player who was not seen on the list heading to the United States was Djordje Petrovic, who is reportedly struggling with a minor injury concern.
Chelsea have doubts over Petrovic
However, according to The Athletic, there are doubts at the club whether the goalkeeper can regularly carry out all of the duties he is tasked with under Maresca.
This has led to reports that Chelsea are currently planning on going into next season with Robert Sanchez as their number one.
The Spaniard lost his place in the squad for the majority of 2024 to Petrovic, who was described as ‘amazing’ following his performances last season by Mauricio Pochettino.

It has also been claimed that there is interest from the club in signing a new goalkeeper to compete for the number one shirt next season.
While Sanchez no doubt had positive moments last season, there were equally as many the other way that left supporters not convinced he could be the one to help take the project forwards.
It does seem harsh on Petrovic too, who enjoyed a really strong debut season in the Premier League that many didn’t see coming so soon
