Chelsea have had two permanent managers since getting rid of Graham Potter last April following his struggles in the Stamford Bridge dugout.

Even so, Chelsea still find themselves in a position where they are having to pay Graham Potter money, and it is not a small amount of cash either.

That could change, however, if he goes on to become the next England manager, which certainly looks possible.

Potter doesn’t want to talk about England right now, but the 49-year-old has been heavily linked with the job following Gareth Southgate’s exit.

Graham Potter becoming new England manager will benefit Chelsea

There is obviously no guarantee that Potter is going to succeed Southgate in the Wembley dugout. There are other managers who also look to be in contention to replace him.

It is expected that Mauricio Pochettino will converse with England about becoming their next boss. But if Potter does end up being the man to take over, then that is good news for Chelsea.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are still paying Potter a whopping £200,000 a week despite sacking him more than a year ago.

However, the same outlet reports that if Potter is appointed as the new England boss, the wage the FA pay him will then be deducted from the amount outstanding from his previous employers.

Chelsea need to persist with Enzo Maresca

Since Potter and Pochettino’s departures, Enzo Maresca has since come in at Chelsea. And the above is why they need to try and stick with him.

The Blues have paid out so much money on sacking managers and are still doing so with Potter, for example.

It is obviously going to depend on how the team performs under Maresca, but he looks to have made a good first impression on them.

Chelsea are enjoying training under Maresca right now, and that can only be seen as a positive thing. The club now need this to work, or else the Italian could become another former boss who they end up paying money to each week.
