Chelsea players have actually struggled at times to make the impression and impact they would have liked for their countries this summer.

Romelu Lukaku is having an ongoing battle with VAR, after seeing three goals now taken away from him in his opening two games.

Armando Broja was a player Chelsea were hoping would have a big tournament in their attempts to get him sold, however they will have been dismayed to see him be dropped for Albania’s second group game.

England are the only country at Euro 2024 to have two Chelsea players representing them, however the term representing is somewhat a stretch up to now.

Cole Palmer is yet to see a minute for his country despite his immense individual campaign at Stamford Bridge, while Conor Gallagher up to now has been the first substitute utilised by Gareth Southgate in both games.

Conor Gallagher to start for England

However, this is now set to change, with The Athletic reporting that the captain for the majority of last season at Chelsea is now set to come into the starting line-up for their final group game against Slovenia.

Gallagher was certainly a favourite of former manager Mauricio Pochettino, describing him as ‘priceless’.

It has been reported that the future of the midfielder was a big sticking point as far as the Argentine was concerned at the end of the season, with him eventually departing the club on mutual consent.

Gallagher likely to start alongside Declan Rice

Gallagher looks likely to start alongside Declan Rice in a midfield two tomorrow, and some will have been left wondering if this is likely to get the best out of him on the pitch.

It should be remembered though just how impressive he was at the end of the season when he was asked to play in a two in midfield alongside Moises Caicedo in the absence of former record signing Enzo Fernandez.
