Moises Caicedo in Copa America Team of the Group Stage

WhoScored has named its Team of the Group Stage for the Copa America, which includes Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo.

WhoScored wrote: “Moises Caicedo (Ecuador) – 7.75. Chelsea’s £115m man Moises Caicedo joins [Manuel] Ugarte in midfield having turned in three strong performances for his country across the group stage. In all, Caicedo managed 11 tackles, nine interceptions, five key passes and three successful dribbles.”

Caicedo played every single minute for Ecuador in the group stages.

They finished runners-up after losing to Venezuela, before a win over Jamaica and a draw against Mexico.

Here’s how Group B finished:

Position Team Played Won Drawn Lost For Against GD Points
1 Venezuela 3 3 0 0 6 1 5 9
2 Ecuador 3 1 1 1 4 3 1 4
3 Mexico 3 1 1 1 1 1 0 4
4 Jamaica 3 0 0 3 1 7 -6 0

Chelsea starting to get a return on their investment

Chelsea’s mega £115m deal (BBC) to sign Caicedo from Brighton last summer immediately put so much pressure on his shoulders.

Despite the slow start to his Blues career, the 22-year-old talent is now showing his level on a consistent basis.

He’s in aggressive defensive midfielder who offers so much both on and off the ball.

It’s great to see him continue his end-of-season form at Chelsea in an Ecuador shirt.

Speaking via BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra in May, BBC pundit Adrian Mariappa labelled Chelsea’s Caicedo as “sensational” for a piece of skill in a Premier League match.
