Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer combined on Wednesday to send England to the Euro 2024 final.

Ollie Watkins scored the winner in a 2-1 victory against the Netherlands, which was set up by Cole Palmer, resulting in Gareth Southgate taking England to a second consecutive European Championship final.

When you consider that, the FA will not want to lose Southgate.

But if he does depart, Gary Lineker wants Frank Lampard to succeed Southgate.

It is a topic that former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has been speaking about.

Is Simon Jordan on the same page as Gary Lineker?

While Lineker seems to be all for Lampard replacing Southgate if the 53-year-old and England part ways after the Euros, it looks like Jordan has his doubts about the former Chelsea manager.

In response to Lineker’s comments, Jordan said on talkSPORT: “Do I see Frank Lampard as an England manager in the making? Well, he’s not a young man anymore in managerial terms. He’s 46 years of age.

“We forget that Frank is now coming towards 50 and if he was going to be a manager of repute, I would have suspected that he probably would’ve been one by now.”

Lampard has been out of work since his role as interim manager at Chelsea ended last year.

Frank Lampard is not the former Chelsea manager England should hire

Again, having taken England to another European Championship final, the FA will probably want Southgate to lead the country in the 2026 World Cup.

If a parting of the ways does happen, though, Lampard definitely should not be at the top of the FA’s shortlist of potential replacements.

With the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel available, they should be targeting them.

The two former Chelsea bosses are top coaches who know English football very well.

Lampard’s achievements do not come close to what Pochettino and Tuchel have achieved, especially the latter, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2021.
