The name of the league changes frequently with the sponsors will. Slovak Extraliga is now known as Tipos Extraliga; Tipos as the title sponsor since the 2020-21 season. It is the highest-level ice hockey league in Slovakia.

The Tipos Extraliga is structured into the regular season and playoffs. Since the 2018-19 season, the league has added Play-in games after the regular season to determine the 7th team to enter playoffs.

Each team plays 50 games in the Regular season and gathers points according to the game rules. The team with the most points is titled the league champion, and the top six teams qualify for the playoffs.

The top eight Slovak teams from the regular and play-in series will participate in the playoff. The teams ranked #7 to #10 play best-of-five series for the remaining playoff spots. The winner of the playoffs will be the Slovak Champion in Tipos Extraliga.

HC Slovan Bratislava

HC Slovan is known as Belasi (the Sky Blues) or Orli (the Eagles). It is a professional club based in Bratislava. It left the Slovak Extraligato to join Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) in 2012.
