Liverpool’s second bid for Romeo Lavia has been rejected by Southampton, talkSPORT understands.
The midfielder remains keen on a move to Anfield, however a breakthrough in negotiations is still some way off.
Jurgen Klopp is keen on a move for the teenager as he looks to bolster his midfield options this summer.
Saints value Lavia at £50million – and Liverpool’s first bid of £35m was immediately rejected.
talkSPORT understands Southampton have now turned down a second offer which also fell well short of their valuation.
Klopp is hoping to add Lavia to a revamped midfield that includes new signings Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.
The need for midfield reinforcements comes after the summer exits of Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita and James Milner.
Liverpool remain confident that they’ll strike a deal as Southampton prepare for life in the EFL following their relegation last term.
However unless a deal is agreed, Lavia is set to line up for the Saints in their Championship opener against Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night – a clash that will be exclusively live on talkSPORT.
