When you look at Chelsea’s squad, it is quite clear that they are not short of centre-back options.

Chelsea are currently in possession of Levi Colwill, Benoit Badiashile, Tosin Adarabioyo, Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana.

Summer signing Renato Veiga can also play in central defence. It is one reason why the club are probably happy to let Trevoh Chalobah go this summer.

Chelsea have transfer listed Chalobah, but despite having all of those other options, one statistic shows that selling the 25-year-old could still be a decision that the Blues come to regret.

Chelsea are more successful when Trevoh Chalobah is in the team

Since breaking into the Chelsea first team, Chalobah has not always been a starter at Stamford Bridge. Last season, that was partly because of injury.

The centre-half did not play his first Premier League game until February, a 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad.

However, he did not really look back after that and became a starter for Mauricio Pochettino until the end of the season.

Pochettino’s side picked up wins with him in the team. In fact, Chelsea’s overall record with Chalobah in the first XI is pretty good.

As per WhoScored, Chelsea have a higher win percentage (56%) with Chalobah in the team than without the former England U21 international (36%) since 2021. They also concede fewer goals, further showing his influence.

However, despite the above, the club’s owners and sporting directors now seem prepared to offload Chalobah this summer.

Pressure on Tosin Adarabioyo and Axel Disasi

Chalobah is a Chelsea boy, coming through the Blues’ academy. He is adored by plenty of supporters, who will not want to see him leave.

The likes of Adarabioyo and Disasi are now likely to be under a bit of pressure to perform, as fans will feel that they are the ones who have made Chalobah redundant in the eyes of the club.

If they do not, supporters will quickly start to question why Chalobah, a very capable defender, was allowed to leave Stamford Bridge.

In fact, when you look at their win percentage with him, Chalobah is more than a capable defender. He is a very good one, one they could regret selling.
