Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan has been discussing Mauricio Pochettino’s exit from Chelsea.
The Blues confirmed on Tuesday that Mauricio Pochettino had left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent.
Things were starting to look much brighter there, with Chelsea winning all of their last five games of the Premier League season.
As manager, Pochettino certainly deserved credit for how they finished the campaign.
However, it was not enough to keep the two parties together. Chelsea are now hoping to appoint the Argentine’s successor in the coming days.
Simon Jordan on Mauricio Pochettino’s departure
While Chelsea have stated that Pochettino has left by mutual consent, Simon Jordan thinks the club’s board were the ones behind his exit.
Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “I think this is a Chelsea decision. I don’t think this is a Pochettino decision.
“He might have been resolute on some of the things he thinks he needs, but I think the ultimate decision has been made by the hierarchy at Chelsea and mutual consent just because everybody has a sort of drop hands mentality.”
Should Chelsea have asked Mauricio Pochettino to stay?
Given circumstances, Pochettino actually ended up doing quite a good job at Chelsea.
When he found them, they were a team that had just finished in 12th place.
Chelsea had lost a lot of experience last summer as well, with the likes of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic all leaving the club.
Pochettino then had to deal with an injury crisis that did not die down until the end of the season. And when it eventually did, the Blues were able to put a run together that saw them win five games on the bounce and secure sixth place.
Ultimately, then, retaining Pochettino’s services may have been the best thing to do. However, it seems all parties wanted a divorce, which they got in the end, leaving Chelsea in need of a new manager and Pochettino in need of a job.
