Chelsea have registered their first win of the summer under new manager Enzo Maresca at the third time of asking.

The Blues defeated Club America 3-0, with Chelsea fans impressed with the performance of Reece James in particular as he dropped the inverting role from his game.

This position was actually taken up by Malo Gusto, who impressed greatly playing alongside Romeo Lavia in the midfield.

Raheem Sterling was given the start on the left of attack, however was replaced after just over an hour to give Mykhailo Mudryk some minutes.

It was interesting to watch the Ukranian in action just a day after he was reportedly on the end of some very hands on coaching from Maresca on the training ground.

Maresca hands on training with Mykhailo Mudryk

Journalist Kieran Gill said: “Training finishes as Armageddon approaches from behind the tree line. Enzo Maresca very hands on, pressing his own players in drills.

“Plenty of individual instructions to Mykhailo Mudryk. A few great saves from Filip Jorgensen during shooting practice. Good session overall.”

The left-wing position is certainly up for grabs as we approach the opening Premier League fixture against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

Sterling scored in both games against the Champions last season, and seems to play with a real hunger against his former side whenever he faces them.

Tyrique George looking for minutes

Mudryk will be hoping this is the season where he finally breaks out in a Chelsea shirt, with him yet to convince many based on the transfer fee the club paid for him.

The duo will both be feeling pressure from youngster Tyrique George too, who started the first friendly of the summer against Wrexham.

It looks at this stage like the Cobham graduate is not going to be loaned out this summer, and will certainly be looking to cup games to take his chance in the first team picture.
