It has been en extremely frustrating season for Chelsea captain Reece James.

He missed most of it because of injury and suspension, absent from Chelsea‘s last game of the campaign after getting sent off in their 2-1 win against Brighton & Hove Albion.

In total, Reece James made just 10 appearances in the Premier League, with only five of those being starts.

However, the right-back was not moping around after the full-time whistle in Chelsea’s victory over Bournemouth.

Mauricio Pochettino has made a prediction about James for the 2024/25 campaign.

Reece James and Thiago Silva after full-time whistle

The Bournemouth game was Thiago Silva‘s final one in a Chelsea shirt.

The central defender is leaving the club to join Fluminense after failing to agree a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

After the full-time whistle went in Chelsea’s win against Bournemouth, James was quick to head straight over to Silva and embrace him.

Making 155 appearances at Chelsea and helping the club to win their second Champions League trophy, Silva is truly adored in that part of west London.

Reece James could lose starting spot to Malo Gusto

Silva will obviously not be starting games for Chelsea next season and James, although he is not going anywhere, could also be out of the Blues’ first XI.

Discipline has been an issue for the England international, who has received two red cards this term.

His deputy Malo Gusto could now oust him out of the starting XI after the excellent campaign he has had.

Across all competitions, the Frenchman has registered nine assists, which is impressive for a fullback.

As per FBref, Gusto has also ranked in the 93rd percentile for touches in the attacking penalty area, which really shows just how much he loves to get forward.

If James does not sort things out, then the Chelsea skipper could end up finding himself on the bench next term.
