Chelsea have looked to be active in the transfer market this summer to give suitable backing to the new man at the helm.

Enzo Maresca was named the new manager of the club not long after Mauricio Pochettino was removed from his post, and the long-term contract he has been handed suggests that they have plenty of faith in him succeeding.

The marquee addition made so far has been Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, with the manager having plenty of experience working with him at Leicester City last season.

Now, it looks as if they are set to add another player to their ranks for the long term future.

Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter to state that Renato Veiga has completed his medical ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge on a long-term deal.

Renato Veiga completes Chelsea medical

He said: “Renato Veiga has completed all medical tests as Chelsea player on Wednesday in London and contract will be signed today.

“Deal valid until June 2032 after €14m deal agreed with Basel, as revealed last week. It’s all set.”

There is plenty of excitement over the future for Veiga. He has previously been described by a former manager as ‘excellent’.

The Blues are reportedly big fans of the fact that he can play a number of positions across the backline.

It is believed that Maresca will get the chance to assess the youngster when he joins to work out whether he will feature for the first team straight away.

Marc Cucurella likely to start season for Chelsea

There is belief that Marc Cucurella will be starting the season in that position, after he has followed up his strong end to the season with a brilliant campaign at Euro 2024.

He has the chance to become a European champion on Sunday, however will need to overcome Chelsea teammates Cole Palmer and Conor Gallagher in the final following England’s dramatic semi-final victory against the Netherlands last night.
