Wrexham vs Wigan predictions
The first round of cup competitions can often be hard to analyse as many clubs will prioritise the league, even this close to the start of the season.
Wrexham had a rude awakening in their return to the EFL on Saturday, losing 5-3 to MK Dons at home, but the side were their usual high scoring and drama-filled selves.
Conceding two goals in the opening ten minutes, two goals in additional time and plenty of shots on target.
Though the scoreline could flatter MK, Wrexham were punished for mistakes at the back and from there the opposition sat back allowing them to take control of possession.
That might be a similar set up against Wigan but with a focus on retaining early control, versus what could well be a side mostly comprised of their U23 and U21 players and just a couple of experienced members.
Wrexham vs Wigan betting tips
Wrexham to win and Both Teams to Score – 27/10
What the opening games said about the two teams as that they shouldn’t be underestimated, but that they also are both capable of scoring plenty of goals.
Wrexham will probably have a stronger side put out than Wigan who have to start the League One season on minus points, thanks to a points deduction.
Their focus could well be on the league, while also giving a much needed run out to new and younger players in the cup.
If this game is anything like the two opening games these sides had in the league, it’s set to be an intriguing battle between two closely matched teams, but just in favour of the home side.
Half Time / Full Time: Wrexham / Wrexham – 2/1
Wigan took the lead against Derby within the first half, while Wrexham were 2-0 down within ten minutes on Saturday.
This result should reverse in favour of Wrexham though, as the League Two side will be keen to get out in front early and not make the same mistakes they had in their clash against MK.
That being said, don’t rule out some late antics as is the way for the Hollywood-owned club.
