This year’s festival promises a Cote d’Azur buffet of spectacle, scandal and cinema set to be served over the next 12 days.

It’s unspooling against the backdrop of labor unrest. Protests that have roiled France in recent months over changes to its pension system are planned to run during the festival, albeit at a distance from the festival’s main hub.

Meanwhile, an ongoing strike by screenwriters in Hollywood could have unpredictable effects on the French Riviera festival.

On Wednesday, the Monster premiere took place at the iconic film festival with celebs such as Gemma Chan and Amy Jackson in attendance.

The films synopsis reads: ‘When her young son Minato starts to behave strangely, his mother feels that there is something wrong. Discovering that a teacher is responsible, she storms into the school demanding to know what’s going on.

‘But as the story unfolds through the eyes of mother, teacher and child, the truth gradually emerges. Palme d’Or winner and internationally acclaimed director Kore-Eda Hirokazu returns with a delicate, powerfully moving story of love, duty, social conflict and secrets.’

The world’s biggest film festival will conclude with the Closing Ceremony on May 27.

Last year, Alessandra told Harper’s Bazaar that she ‘didn’t think modelling would last.’

But fame has not changed her much: ‘In my personal life, I keep things simple. I’m a Brazilian girl, even though I now live in LA, so swimsuits and simple beachwear is my style.

‘I love fashion but I don’t have to go crazy with buying items. I’m happy with what makes me comfortable.’

And she named her top style icons: ‘Brigitte Bardot, Grace Kelly, Marilyn Monroe, because they carried themselves with confidence and a sense of fun. They also embraced a timeless look.’

And the leggy lady shared some style advice.

‘I think the best advice would be to remain authentic,’ said the star who loves to wear athleisure.

‘You can be playful and follow your instincts. You can’t abandon yourself entirely; you have to stay true to who you are, even when you’re wearing something that you wouldn’t normally choose.’

And she said she wants her kids to dress how they like.

‘I want them to feel happy and comfortable in their own skin, so I would gently guide them if I felt they were trying to be someone they’re not. But I’m happy for them to take their own journey. It’s the only way.’
