Body-positive influencer Karina Irby has been ‘busted’ editing her Instagram photos, despite urging her followers not to.

Social media sleuth John Dorsey shared a series of videos this week calling out Karina, who owns the Moana Bikini brand and boasts 1.2million followers, labelling her a ‘hypocrite’.

Dorsey said he was astounded to discover she had been Photoshopping her content, especially since her ‘whole brand is built on being real’.

However, Karina hit back at the claims on Thursday, telling Daily Mail Australia that while she ‘slightly edited herself in the past’, she has ‘come a long way since then’.

The model says she is one of ‘the most open, honest and transparent creators on social media in 2023’.

She added that Dorsey’s posts are ‘here to create hate towards me, bully and tear me down’.

‘This had to be the biggest amount of hypocrisy I’ve ever come across in doing these stories,’ Dorsey began in a clip.

‘She’s well known for encouraging girls to not edit their photos and not edit their cellulite out… she says be the change you want to see. I am the change I want to see,’ he said, before highlighting her editing fails.

Dorsey pointed out bent walls and distorted backgrounds in her photos – including the metal of her shower bending in one. However, Karina still does post her cellulite online.

‘Why am I saying she’s a hypocrite? Well Karina, it looks like you’ve pulled in your waist in this one… the metal in your shower is bending… because you edited your a**e to be bigger.’

‘Remember this photo? Look in the corner. You cooked it, the corner is bent!’ he added.

‘Karina, I’m disappointed in you, you built a whole brand on being real but you aren’t real. A caption says it’s dangerous for body image but you do it anyway, do better!’

He also shared an old statement where she said she isn’t ‘proud’ of her ‘old edits,’ just eight hours before she edited one before-and-after photo where the background was morphed.

He said an old employee of Karina’s also got in touch to tell him she used to Photoshop her social media pictures.

Karina told Daily Mail Australia on Thursday that it is ‘manufactured drama’ and she has long been open about her ‘journey when it comes to self love and acceptance on her socials’.

‘It’s pretty obviously when you look at my content – posts, reels, stories – that you’re getting the authentic, unedited and unfiltered version of me. Which can rub some people the wrong way,’ she said.

‘It’s for this reason that I focus more of my time on TikTok videos as it is a more authentic and transparent place.’

‘Being in the public eye with years and years of strangers telling my I am ugly, I am fat, I have gross skin, I have had work done etc can take a toll on a person. This is why I speak heavily about online bullying, due to the effects it’s had on me in the past.’

Karina said she tried to speak to Dorsey but claimed he’s trying to ‘bully’ her.

‘I did try to speak openly and maturely to the person that runs this account, however, they weren’t interested in a conversation,’ she said.

KARINA’S STATEMENT IN FULL

‘I have admitted to slighting editing myself in the past (years ago) and I have been more than open about my journey when it comes to self love and acceptance on my Socials.

I have come a long way since then – as have many other creators and Social Media as a whole.

I would argue that I am one of the most open, honest and transparent creators on Social Media in 2023.

It’s pretty obviously when you look at my content – Posts, Reels, Stories – that you’re getting the authentic, unedited and unfiltered version of me. Which can rub some people the wrong way.

Obviously the nature of this person’s post isn’t to have an open / honest dialogue and they are just here to create hate towards me, bully and tear me down.

Basically, he’s a clout-chaser, enjoying the hits that come from bullying someone he doesn’t know anything about.

For example, he went so far as to take a photo from 4 years ago and say that I have edited my walls to be more white. In fact, we had our house painted white in June of 2021.

It is is a little funny when you see the lengths that people will go to – and the things they will create in their heads – when all they want to do is bring someone down and get hits on their hate-posts.

Thankfully, I have such a strong audience of customers, friends and community from our brands – Moana Bikini and The Moana Smile Club – that can see through all of this manufactured drama.

Thankfully for me – but unfortunately for the next girl – I am sure he will move onto picking on someone else so he can make himself feel big and strong behind his phone screen.’

Karina made headlines this week for giving up sugar for 130 days.

The Aussie beauty said she got rid of bloating and abdominal discomfort as well as her anxiety and brain fog by ditching sweet treats.

However, she said she misses ‘bingeing on chocolate’ and still has skin issues despite the health kick.

‘All and all, the pros far weigh out the cons and I’m so incredibly satisfied with my results,’ she said.

In January, the 33-year-old founder of Moana Bikini revealed she used to limit her diet and work out obsessively when she was younger because she felt pressure to be thin.

She shared her experience in a candid Instagram Story, posting a throwback photo of herself in her teens looking extremely slim.

While Irby stressed she ‘didn’t have a disorder’, she said her relationship with food and exercise was unhealthy at the time, and her desire to stay thin was motivated by the warped belief it was the only way to be popular.

She has previously said she’s been trolled and had death threats for her sharing pictures of her cellulite but hit back, saying: ‘If my cellulite makes you that upset then you are the problem.’

She added: ‘I could easily just stop posting and get upset about it but that’s not who I am.’
