Crown Princess Mary is the definition of casual chic as she hits the shops in Sydney’s Palm Beach

Princess Mary of Denmark has returned home to Australia with her husband, Prince Frederik of Denmark, and their children for the first time in five years.

The royal – formerly known as Mary Donaldson – grew up in Tasmania and spent 28 years of her life in Australia before she moved to the Scandinavian nation and married Frederik at Copenhagen Cathedral in 2004.

And on Wednesday, the 50-year-old cut a low-key casual figure as she was spotted out and about on Sydney‘s Northern Beaches.

Mary wore her long-sleeve white shirt partially unbuttoned which she teamed up with a pair of green shorts.

The Australian native also included a pair of light brown flat sandals as part of her look and wore designer sunglasses.

The stylish royal had her hair pulled back off her face for the occasion, and appeared to have on minimal makeup.

It was first announced in February that Princess Mary was set to return to Australia to spend Christmas with her family.

The Hobart-born royal will spend the holidays with her Tasmanian family, the Danish royal household confirmed.

It’s the first time in five years the whole family are visiting Australia together.

However Mary made a top secret solo getaway to Melbourne last year.

The visit this time is a private trip, meaning she is not Down Under in any official capacity.

Her last time travelling to her home country in an official capacity was in 2013.

A statement from the royal household read: ‘In December, the Crown Prince’s family will travel on a private Christmas holiday in Australia to celebrate the holiday with HRH the Crown Princess’s family.

‘It has been five years since the Crown Prince coupled together with their four children last visited the Crown Princess’s homeland.’

Since since marrying her prince in 2004 she’s known to have come back to Australia at least nine times – with four being official visits.

Before the pandemic, the family would make a visit back at least every one or two years, but this slowed after 2017.

In March 2021, the royal made a secret trip without her husband or children for her 50th birthday.
