The new trailer for the dark thriller-romance Sanctuary starring Margaret Qualley as a power-hungry dominatrix has been released.
Qualley, 28, – who is engaged to musician Jack Antonoff – plays Rebecca, who sees a way to exploit her wealthy client Hal, played by Christopher Abbott, 37, over the course of one night in a hotel suite.
Hal is the son of a luxury hotel chain who is the heir apparent to the hotel and his father’s billion-dollar business. When he is elevated to CEO of the company, he tries to end his arrangement with Rebecca, but she has other ideas.
She sees the opportunity to cash in on his fortune, telling him he would never have gotten the job if she hadn’t made him into the man he is now and demanding half of his new salary.
‘What comes next is a showdown between her force and his financial clout, between labor and the lordly class,’ Variety wrote in a review of the film.

The trailer starts with a knock on the door of the hotel room. Hal opens it and Rebecca confidently strides into the room and takes the drink offered him.
‘Nice place,’ she says. ‘Is this the bathroom? This needs to be cleaned.’
In the next scene she sits commandingly in a chair shouting insults to Hal as he cleans the bathroom.
‘I want you to clean behind the toilet,’ she says as Hal crawls around on his hands and knees in his underwear.
‘What do you see when you look at yourself? Garbage. You aren’t anything,’ she says as Hal reaches a sexual crescendo from the degradation.
The trailer then cuts to the two of them having dinner in his room. Rebecca says, ‘I really liked that scene.’
‘Me too,’ Hal says adding, ‘It’s going to be so weird not to have this as part of my routine anymore.’
He explains he’s been made the CEO of his father’s hotel chain and tells Rebecca it’s not a good idea to keep doing this.

‘I mean when you say it like that, it does sound weird,’ Hal admits.
‘There’s a camera hidden in this hotel suite,’ she tells him, prompting him to go nuts tearing the place apart looking for it.
‘But who is [Hal] under the bluster?’ the Variety review of the film said.

The film first premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022.
It will open in theaters in the U.S. on May 25.
