Margot Robbie reveals she adopted the characteristics of a fierce animal to get into character for her wild role as a debauched actress in Babylon

Margot Robbie has revealed she channeled a honey badger on the set of her latest film Babylon.

The 32-year-old Aussie actress plays debauched rising star Nellie LaRoy in the mega-budget comedy-drama, which is set in Hollywood in the 1920s.

Robbie said she used the characteristics of the animal – a small mammal known for its fierce personality – to get into the role.

‘They have really thick skin,’ she said during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

‘[Nellie] fights anything and anyone.’

The Wolf of Wall Street star told host Kelly Clarkson it was customary for actors to adopt animal characteristics to get into a role.

Robbie said she used a movement coach to help develop the part for Babylon, which co-stars Brad Pitt.

The beauty added she also adopted the characteristics of an octopus for Nellie, who becomes involved in a number of wild parties in the film’s storyline.

Elsewhere in the chat, Robbie revealed for her highly-praised leading role as Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, she drew upon the characteristics of a pit bull dog.

‘They are very misunderstood,’ she explained.

Directed by Damien Chazelle of La La Land fame, Babylon stars Pitt and Robbie as movie stars in the early days of Hollywood.

The plot details how both become engrossed in ribald behaviour, largely involving Robbie’s character, who is said to be inspired by the original ‘It girl’ Clara Bow.

The Hollywood fan favourites appeared last month on The Project, when Pitt admitted it was his idea to share an onscreen kiss with his co-star.

The 59-year-old let slip to host Waleed Aly that he didn’t want to pass the opportunity to make out with the Australian beauty.

‘No [it wasn’t in the script]. I had asked for it, if we can write that in,’ he laughed.

‘You know, when was I going to get a chance to do this again? And we did it.’

‘I might add too that Nellie (Margot’s character) kisses fifteen people in this movie,’ Robbie explained before Pitt joked that Nellie was probably carrying a few Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
