A wild new theory has surfaced about Miley Cyrus‘ fiery new diss track Flowers.
The song has made headlines for its obvious references to Miley’s ex-husband Liam Hemsworth, including lyrics about the Miami wildfire that destroyed their home.
But some online sleuths believe the music video also contains a ‘hidden message’ about Liam’s relationship with his Hunger Games co-star Jennifer Lawrence.

The video, released on Liam’s birthday, shows Miley strutting around the Hollywood Hills in a slinky gold dress from Saint Laurent’s autumn/winter 1991 collection.
Eagle-eyed fans pointed out her dress resembles the gold Prabal Gurung worn by Jennifer when she attended The Hunger Games premiere with Liam in March 2012.
The similarity between the two outfits is made obvious in a viral TikTok video titled ‘Tell us Miley! Queen of Shade’ that shows side-by-side footage of Miley in the Flowers video and Jennifer on the red carpet.

While the pop star has never called out Jennifer publicly, some fans believe she was ‘throwing shade’ at the American Hustle star because she and Liam were rumoured to have had a fling on set of The Hunger Games.
Jennifer and Liam filmed the four-part sci-fi franchise between 2012 and 2015, playing on-screen lovers Katniss Everdeen and Gale Hawthorne.
The pair were the subject of persistent romance rumours throughout filming, and in 2015 Jennifer finally admitted she’d kissed Liam off-camera.

In the interview with Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she said Liam was ‘real hot’ before sheepishly confessing the pair had smooched behind the scenes.
Miley and Liam began dating in 2009 while filming The Last Song, and were in an on-and-off relationship for a decade before finally calling it quits in 2019.
Daily Mail Australia is not suggesting Liam cheated on Miley with Jennifer, as Liam could have been on a break with Miley during the off-screen kiss with his co-star.

The meaning behind Miley’s gold dress has sparked alternative theories, however.
The gown was part of Saint Laurent’s collection in 1991, which happens to be the year between Miley and Liam’s births: she was born in November 1992 and he was born in January 1990.
Moments after wearing the Saint Laurent dress, Miley slips into a black blazer by the same designer’s 2022 collection.

Some believe this symbolises how Miley has moved on from the relationship she started as a teenager and is ready for a new era.
During their time together, the couple often wore Saint Laurent, including at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in February 2019 when Liam infamously scolded Miley as she started twerking on the red carpet.
It comes as theories continue to circulate about her chart-topping hit Flowers.

In the opening verse, Miley sings that they ‘built a home and watched it burn’, likely referencing the $2.5million home she lived with Liam that burned in the 2018 fires.
She also references the Australian actor’s sudden act of filing for divorce in 2019 by singing, ‘I didn’t want to leave you / I didn’t wanna lie / Started to cry.’
At the time it was believed Miley wanted to work on their 10-year on-again/off-again relationship and was shocked Liam wanted to legally end things.
