Aussie actress Miranda Otto teases return Down Under after living in the US for the last decade to focus on her Hollywood career

Aussie actress Miranda Otto has teased plans to move back to Australia after living in the US for a decade.

The Brisbane-born actress, 55, misses spending time Down Under and is considering returning home for a while.

Miranda, who shares her 18-year-old daughter Darcey with her actor husband Peter O’Brien, made the admission while promoting her new Disney+ series The Clearing.

‘I would certainly like to spend more time back here, now that my daughter has actually finished school in America,’ she said during an interview with podcast TV Reload on Thursday.

‘I want to spend more time in Australia,’ she added.

Miranda has won praise from fans for her chilling role in The Clearing, which premiered on Disney+ on Wednesday.

The War of the Worlds actress plays a cult leader who goes head to head with a former member of the group, played by co-star Teresa Palmer.

‘You can’t play evil or cold or any of those things,’ Miranda said of the part. ‘You have to make it understandable why people would be taken in by her.’

The drama is a fictionalised account of the so-called ‘Doomsday Cult’ founded in the 1960s by Anne Hamilton-Byrne.

Co-starring Guy Pearce and Hazem Shammas, the eight-part drama is based on the novel of the same name by J.P. Pomare.

Elsewhere in the chat, Miranda talked about her childhood as the daughter of Australian actors, Barry Otto, and Lindsay Otto.

‘When I started [acting] people knew me as a little kid,’ she recalled. ‘And it was a process to find my own identity as myself and not just my father’s daughter.’

She also addressed the current trend of ‘nepo babies’, where the children of celebrities use their background as a way to break into the business.

‘I just think audiences decide… they either like the work or they don’t. At the end of the day you, if can’t cut it, you can’t it.’

It comes after The Clearing has met with rave reviews from fans, only minutes after the show dropped its first episodes.

‘Oh my, watching right now and just the scenery alone,’ one fan wrote.

‘Quite chilling! Just when I thought I’d only watch the first episode tonight I now feel compelled to watch the second,’ added another viewer

‘My God, what a perfect performance,’ commented one viewer, while another agreed: ‘Perfect acting!’

Miranda’s younger sister Gracie, 34, directed the series alongside Australian actor-turned-filmmaker Jeffrey Walker.
