‘Twisted!’ Netflix fans admit to having ‘NIGHTMARES’ after watching ‘disturbing’ South Korean thriller The Call

Netflix fans have admit they’re having ‘nightmares’ after watching one particular movie.

Taking to social media, viewers of South Korean horror film, The Call, branded it ‘disturbing’ and ‘mental madness.’

The psychological thriller – which was initially released on 27 November 2020 – follows two women from different time who connect through a phone call.

Set in 2019, 28-year-old Kim Seo-yeon loses her mobile phone while traveling to visit her sick, estranged mother in a rural area.

Arriving at her rundown childhood home, she finds a decades-old cordless phone, and through it receives calls from a distressed woman who says she’s being tortured.

After investigating, Seo-yeon figures out that the woman on the phone, Oh Young-sook, is living in the same house but in 1999, twenty years earlier. 

Taking to Twitter, viewers voiced their feedback on the film for others to read, with one person stating: ‘The call on netflix is nuts.’ 

Another added: ‘#TheCall on #Netflix is a good – bats**t crazy – scary movie,’ while a third tweeted: ‘The Call on Netflix is crazy as hell. I may have to rewatch that bc wtf.’

One fan wrote: ‘If you haven’t seen #TheCall on #Netflix then you’re missing out on a phenomenal movie. You are also missing Jeon Jong-seo’s outstandingly disturbing performance.’ 

Another person tweeted: ‘Alright this movie was scary af and now i am gonna be having nightmares because of her…. #TheCall.’ 

‘The Call on Netflix is a mental madness film 10/10 movie,’ insisted someone else, while another viewer told their followers: ‘If you are looking for the most twisted psychological thriller on Netflix right now, watch The Call!’ 

‘Wouldn’t doubt it if I had nightmares tonight watching The Call,’ someone else confessed. 

The 2020 South Korean movie is based on the 2011 British and Puerto Rican film, The Caller. 

Filming began on the latest version in January 2019 and finished in April 2019, but the worldwide coronavirus pandemic changed the plans for its release.

However, the Covid-19 outbreak caused its Korean release date to be postponed and then ultimately the film was released on Netflix in November 2020. 

Rotten Tomatoes gives the movie an impressive 78% audience score, while it has an IMDb rating of 7.1. 

Around the globe, The Call has five award wins and twelve nominations in total, including a Best Actress gong for Jeon Jong-seo in the 2022 Director’s Cut Awards.
