The Logies gravy train is over: Networks will no longer be paid a ‘bonus’ to bring stars to the boozy awards after it moved from the Gold Coast to Sydney – leading to fears it will be a dire red carpet

Channel Seven recently confirmed the 2023 Logie Awards will be held in Sydney.

And now it’s been revealed another major change will be made, with networks no longer receiving lucrative payments as an incentive to bring celebrities along.

According to The Australian’s Media Diary, media giants won’t be paid to bring stars to the awards ceremony anymore.

The Logies have been held on the Gold Coast since 2018 and Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk would offer each network $1,000 a head to bring on-air talent to the event, with a limit of $75,000.

The Queensland government also offered each network up to $25,000 as a bonus for promoting the Logies on their channels.

However, the Logies’ publicist Kelly Black has sent the networks an email to inform them ‘the previous rebate will no longer be in place’ following the move to Sydney.

Some network sources have expressed concern this could result in a dire red carpet.

The awards show has been held on the Gold Coast since 2018 with support from the Queensland government, but that deal ended in 2022.

Channel Seven recently confirmed that the 2023 Logie Awards will be held in Sydney on July 30.

It will be the first time the awards have been handed out in Sydney since 1986.

Home and Away fan favourites Ray Meagher and Ada Nicodemou joined The Voice star Sonia Kruger on the Sydney Harbour to help make the announcement.

Seven CEO James Warburton said: ‘The time was right to find a new home for the Logies and bringing them back to Sydney after more than 30 years made perfect sense.’

‘Australia’s TV networks and many of its major production companies are based in Sydney,’ he added.

‘And the city provides a backdrop for some of the country’s most popular TV shows. Seven has exciting plans for the Logies.’

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet praised the announcement, declaring that the Logies move to Sydney would inject millions of dollars into the state’s economy.

‘Television’s night of nights now has its rightful home in The Harbour City, showcasing the glitz and glamour of our vibrant night-life,’ he said.
