Powerball winner comes forward to claim $50million prize and will quit her job

  • Eye-watering $100M Powerball won by two entries
  • Melbourne mother won half with a last-minute entry
  • Other $50M went to a 10-member syndicate in NSW

A Melbourne mum will shower their children with gifts for years to come after taking home an eye-watering $50million in last night’s $100million Powerball draw with a ticket she purchased at the very last minute.

The woman from Melton, in the city’s west, held one of two division one winning entries in Powerball draw 1420 drawn on Thursday night.

The other division one winning entry was a 10-member syndicate from NSW. The winning ticket was sold at Rosebery North Newsagency in Sydney’s inner south.

The Melbourne mum took a little longer to discover her newfound fortune as some of her contact details, such as her email, was incorrect.

She was heard cheering at her desk at work on Friday morning after an official from The Lott called and broke the news of her life-changing win.

‘I’ve won $50 million? Oh, my goodness! ‘I can’t believe this. What a dream come true,’ she said.

‘I had absolutely no idea! I’ve gone to work as per usual this morning and you’ve called to tell me that I’ve won $50million?

The woman said her colleagues were ‘clapping and cheering’ and revealed she had purchased the winning ticket moments before the draw closed.

‘I purchased it around 7pm last night after remembering there was $100 million up for grabs,’ she revealed.

‘This is absolutely life-changing. This will help me look after my kids. My kids mean the world to me, and I’ll be able to set them up for the future.’

The woman said she also looked forward to quitting her job.

Melbourne’s newest millionaire purchased her Powerhit entry online via OzLotteries.com – one of The Lott’s authorised resellers.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1420 on Thursday 3 August 2023 were 13, 7, 18, 1, 23, 25 and 33. The all-important Powerball number was 7.
