Adams is currently sidelined until September after suffering an injury-ravaged campaign last season.

However, despite occupying the same position as long-term target Moises Caicedo, Chelsea are still keen on signing the Brighton star as well, talkSPORT understands.

The Seagulls have stood firm over their valuation of the Ecuadorian at over £100m.

And while Chelsea are yet to meet that total, they are nudging closer to an agreement with Brighton while Caicedo did not appear in their latest friendly on Sunday.

The Blues are keen on both players, though, and Adams is seen as a young player with potential and low-risk considering his release clause.

The 24-year-old looks set to leave Elland Road after one season having signed for the Whites in 2022 from RB Leipzig.

Aston Villa are also keen on the American but it is reported that he would prefer a move to Stamford Bridge.

Adams does not want to spend a season in the Championship when two years before he was in the Champions League semi-finals with RB Leipzig.

Chelsea have identified the player to bolster their squad after losing several midfielders this summer.

Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have all departed while Jorginho left in January.

Conor Gallagher has also been tipped to leave while the arrival of Adams could signal an end to his time 15 years at Chelsea.

While some might be concerned over signing a player that was relegated with Leeds last season, the New York-born ace can hold his head still high.

He was one of the top performers at the Yorkshire club last year while a two-month lay-off saw results capitulate late into the season.

In total, he made 24 appearances for Leeds while he also earned the captain’s armband for his country at the World Cup in Qatar.

Adams has been praised for his tackling ability and tenacity in midfield, providing work-rate and energy.

It is something that is lacking in Chelsea’s midfield, especially after the departures of Kante and Mount.
