Chelsea are interested in signing Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners.

That is according to transfer speculation this week.

La Repubblica claims that Italian top-flight club Atalanta are prepared to sell Teun Koopmeiners this summer if their €55 million (£47m) price tag is met.

They name Chelsea as one of the clubs most interested in signing the 25-year-old midfielder, too.

La Repubblica reports that Atalanta are receiving big interest in Koopmeiners from Juventus, with the Serie A clubs actually in discussions about him already.

It is understood that Juventus are yet to meet Atalanta’s asking price, but they’re in a hurry because of the looming threat of Premier League interest.

Apparently, English giants Chelsea and Manchester United are both lurking as interested buyers in the £47million-rated star.

Chelsea interested in Teun Koopmeiners

Koopmeiners, who’s got 20 international caps for the Dutch side, is a talented player.

The left-footed technician is a versatile midfielder that’s switched between deep-lying and offensive roles, scoring nine goals in 28 Atalanta club appearances so far this season.

Hailed as ‘extraordinary’ by former Atalanta player Domenico Progna (TuttoMercatoWeb), Koopmeiners should soon be entering his prime years and looks quite a complete package. He’s impressed in the Serie A and the Europa League competition so far this campaign.

However, we’d suggest Chelsea focus their transfer funds in the next window on getting a prolific striker. There’s already an abundance of midfield talent at Stamford Bridge with the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Conor Gallagher, Carney Chukwuemeka and Romeo Lavia.

For Blues head coach Mauricio Pochettino, it look like he’s finally started to crack the midfield code with this Caicedo-Fernandez pivot. We may only be one or two statement signings away from really climbing back up the league standings, with the No 9 area one that needs immediate attention.
