Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson put his side 1-0 in front against Brentford earlier with a fantastic header.

It was cancelled out by Mads Roerslev in the second half, but it was still a well-worked goal, with Paul Merson praising both the scorer and the man who put the ball into the box.

Malo Gusto found Jackson with an excellent cross and Merson, who was covering the game for Sky Sports, thought it was an “unbelievable” ball.

Gusto has come into the team following Reece James’ injury and has rarely let Mauricio Pochettino down.

His latest assist is just another example of what he can bring to this Chelsea team when they are attacking. When James is fit, the England international will be Gusto’s rival for the right-back position. However, the 20-year-old says his captain still tries to help him.

Paul Merson praises Malo Gusto’s ball into the box

Merson loved Gusto and Jackson’s combination for the forward’s first-half goal.

On the header Jackson scored, the Arsenal legend said: “What a goal this is. Gusto gets the ball on the right-hand side, he whips an unbelievable ball in between the six-yard box and the penalty spot and there’s Jackson.

“He gets up and bang into the far corner. It’s an unbelievable cross and an unbelievable header.”

Malo Gusto’s crossing really dangerous

Going forward, Gusto has done so well for Chelsea. As the Frenchman showed against Brentford, this is a full-back who can get forward and cross the ball.

The Blues paid Lyon £30.7m (BBC Sport) for Gusto and he has been worth every penny and then some.

The France international is still only 20 as well, so he has time to become even better, time to become a complete full-back. Hopefully with the right coaching, Gusto can become that.

Gusto is no slouch either, with pundit Robbie Mustoe recently admitting that he did not realise that the former Lyon man was so quick.

When James is ready to play again, he could face a fight to get back into Chelsea’s starting XI if Gusto keeps this up.
