Mauricio Pochettino rung the changes again at the weekend as his Chelsea squad got ready for the short journey across West London to take on Brentford.

While they started strong and took the lead in the first half through Nicolas Jackson, it took a late Axel Disasi header to save a point in the Premier League affair.

Pochettino welcomed back a number of his first team players who were afforded rare rests in the FA Cup in the week, where they defeated an impressive Leeds United side 3-2.

The likes of Conor Gallagher, Cole Palmer and Levi Colwill came back into the starting side, with the former being the player who decided the cup tie off the bench in the week.

While this arguably saw them name on of their stronger lineups in a new look back three, it seemed to not reward one of the players who had the most impressive displays of the night against Leeds.

Mykhailo Mudryk featured in a new role at Stamford Bridge last time out, with him operating in the Number 10 ahead of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

He found the net for the first time in 2024 with a smart finish in the first half, and all round looked far more comfortable in possession than he has for a long time.

Pochettino has to start Mudryk

This is why it was perhaps a shock to a few that he was on the bench for the return to Premier League action, as well as fellow attackers Raheem Sterling and Noni Madueke.

Whether it was unfortunately falling victim of the system or not, there is no excuse for him to not start next time out against Newcastle United.

The Ukraine international already has some good experience against the opponents at Stamford Bridge too, scoring in stoppage time to send an EFL Cup tie to penalties, where the Blues came out on top.
