Chelsea are unlikely to force a couple of players out of the club this summer.
However, it looks like they will still listen to offers for them.
Over the last few transfer windows, Chelsea have obviously spent a lot of money on new players.
Last summer, for example, they broke their transfer record to make Moises Caicedo the most expensive signing in the club’s history.
The Blues now seem to find themselves in a position where they need to sell members of Mauricio Pochettino‘s first-team squad to balance things out.
Chelsea defender’s future up in the air
Marc Cucurella has played really well for Chelsea of late, thriving as an inverted full-back.
Former Chelsea player Jason Cundy described him as a “revelation” after the Blues’ 5-0 win against West Ham United over the weekend.
However, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, he could still be sold in the summer.
Jacobs claimed in his column for Si Phillips Talks Chelsea that while the club will not force either the left-back or Trevoh Chalobah out, offers for the pair will be listened to.
Chelsea signed Cucurella from Brighton & Hove Albion in a £62m deal a couple of years ago.
Should Chelsea sell Marc Cucurella this summer?
Looking at how he has been playing lately, the answer is no.
That West Ham game, for example, Cucurella made five tackles, more than any other player on the pitch, according to WhoScored.
He was also in the top five for accurate passes, so the Spaniard is clearly doing what you would expect of an inverted full-back and just a defender in general.
Despite playing there this season, Levi Colwill is not a natural left-back, while Ben Chilwell has not been able to stay fit.
With the above in mind, Chelsea should not be trying to get rid of Cucurella, at least not until they get another left-back through the door. But based on what he is showing right now, they might as well keep him.
