A horrific bloodbath in Ottawa saw four adults and two children killed at a home in the city – with cops saying they don’t believe it was a case of domestic violence.

According to authorities in, six people were found in a home just south of the downtown area of the city around 11pm Wednesday night. 

Inside, officers found six people, four children and two adults dead, with their identities not known at this time. It is also unclear how the victims were killed. 

In a statement, police said that the investigation into the deaths would be ‘tragic and complex’. 

Five of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, one was rushed to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.

In a statement, police said that the investigation into the deaths would be ‘tragic and complex’

Police confirmed they had a man in custody in relation to the deaths with officers stressing that there is no further threat to the community. 

The male was arrested at the scene of the deaths in the 300 block of Berrigan Drive.  

Ottawa Police Chief Eric Stubbs told Newstalk 580 CFRA that investigators don’t believe the deaths to be an incident of domestic violence. 

He told the outlet: ‘The manner of the homicide, we are not disclosing at this time. I will say that we don’t believe at this time this was domestic violence.

‘We have to go through a process of positively identifying the victims, we will hopefully have more information later in the day.’

Stubbs also said that investigators would be working to determine the relationship between the victims and the suspect.

In a separate interview with CBC, Stubbs also called the incident a mass shooting.

Ottawa Mayor mark Sutcliffe said in a statement posted to his X: ‘I was devastated to learn of the multiple homicide in Barrhaven, one of the most shocking incidents of violence in our city’s history. 

‘We are proud to live in a safe community but this news is distressing to all Ottawa residents. 

‘Ginny and I are thinking of the family members and neighbors of the victims. Thank you to our emergency responders who are investigating and supporting those who are affected by this terrible event.’
