With Mauricio Pochettino struggling at Chelsea right now, several managers have been linked to the Blues.

That includes former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, with it being reported that he would consider returning to the club despite getting the sack there.

Tuchel has since taken over at Bayern Munich but is set to leave the Allianz Arena at the end of the season.

Things have not gone to plan for the 50-year-old there; however, he is still an elite coach and is the only manager Chelsea should be considering if they are thinking about getting rid of Mauricio Pochettino.

Thomas Tuchel a safe option

Compared to someone like Ruben Amorim, for example, who Chelsea are said to have a long-standing interest in, Tuchel is a safe bet.

The German has obviously managed in the Premier League before, guiding Chelsea to third and fourth-placed finishes during his time there.

The Blues have not got anywhere near there since Tuchel’s departure; perhaps he actually deserves more credit for the job he did at Stamford Bridge than he gets.

Tuchel also took Chelsea to three domestic cup finals and, of course, won them the Champions League.

Chelsea’s squad suits Thomas Tuchel

This Chelsea squad has a lot of quality in defence when everyone is fit.

The Blues have full-backs who are great at going forward in Reece James, Ben Chilwell and Malo Gusto, while their centre-back options are not bad either.

They have a lot of balance there, with Levi Colwill and Benoit Badiashile able to play on the left side, while Axel Disasi and Wesley Fofana are options for the right.

Thiago Silva is capable of starting on either side and in the middle of a back three, which is the main point here. Chelsea’s team may be better suited to a system that uses three central defenders and wing-backs given the calibre of players they have for those positions, and Tuchel really knows how to use such a set-up.

Ultimately, then, if Chelsea do go on to sack Pochettino, then they should look no further than Tuchel.
