Journalist Simon Phillips has now claimed that there is one signing Chelsea are now not likely to make this summer.
He told his Substack he is getting the impression that the decision makers at the club are looking to be more shroud with their approach for a striker this summer, and will not make a huge signing to address their goalscoring woes.
The Blues have been strongly linked to the addition of a centre forward at the end of this season after seeming to neglect truly strengthening the position since the new owners came in.
Because of that, it was believed that they would be prepared to go big in their efforts to do, and sign one of the elite players in this category.
Victor Osimhen has been frequently mentioned as the top candidate for the role, with his affection for the club off the pitch well known.
Chelsea unlikely to sign big-money striker
His recently signed new contract with a release clause though has made it clear that he won’t be cheap to sign.
Phillips has now claimed the current financial situation of the club could stop them signing someone for that fee at the end of this season.

He said: “Osimhen has been the pipe dream ideal centre forward signing for the owners ever since they arrived at the club, and that hasn’t changed.
“But Chelsea’s sporting directors and decision makers are looking to be a bit smart this summer in terms of spend, and they also know that there are a good handful of positions that they are looking to sign in. It’s unlikely that they will sign off making a £100m plus signing on one single player.”
It has been claimed that if they look for a slightly cheaper option to bring in at the end of this season, they may well consider stepping up their interest in Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
He has also been a long-term target for Chelsea, and is certainly one to watch for the future at the top of the game.
