Former President Donald Trump is accusing congressional Democrats of using AI in a video collection of gaffes and verbal slips that played at Tuesday’s House hearing with Special Counsel Robert Hur. The video showed clips of Trump confusing the names of the heads of Hungary and Turkey, slurring his words, and mixing up Nancy Pelosi and Nikki Haley – all intended to confront Hur’s testimony about President Biden’s memory lapses during his five-hour interview.
‘The Hur Report was revealed today! A disaster for Biden, a two tiered standard of justice. Artificial Intelligence was used by them against me in their videos of me. Can’t do that Joe!’ Trump posted on his Truth Social web site. He did not provide any evidence that Democratic staff used Artificial Intelligence technology or that the White House was involved in the video in any way.
Democrats used the video at Tuesday’s televised hearing to try to turn the tables on Trump after Hur included language in his report that called Biden a ‘well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory’ even while explaining that he would not be charged with any crime in the classified documents probe.
House Judiciary Committee ranking member Rep. Jerold Nadler (D-N.Y.) played a video some of Trump’s greatest slips. ‘That is a man who is incapable of avoiding criminal liability. A man who is wholly unfit for office, and a man who at the very least ought to think twice before accusing others of cognitive decline,’ said Nadler.
The video strings together a number of Trump’s mix-ups, often drawn from publicly available footage at his campaign rallies. One involves mixing up former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Trump rival Nikki Haley, who used the incident against Trump in the last weeks of her campaign.
‘Nikki Haley is in charge of security,’ Trump said, blaming the former South Carolina governor for security lapses at the Capitol January 6, when a mob of his supporters stormed the building. It also includes incidents of Trump’s voice slurring and trailing off during some of his trademark rally speeches, which sometimes run more than an hour.
One clip shows Trump saying ‘I have a really good memory.’ It is immediately followed by a clip from Trump’s deposition in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case where Trump misidentifies former wife Marla Maples in a photo that actually shows Carroll. The testimony was introduced as evidence in the lawsuit.
Trump also mixes up Hungary’s President Viktor Orban and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. ‘Viktor Orban, did anybody ever hear of him? He’s the leader of Turkey,’ Trump says. Trump vented about the video on a day he won enough delegates to capture his party’s presidential nomination after another sweep.
